The Day After

January 1, 2010

pmschocSo…that’s out of the way. You know, all the “Happy New Year”… Man, it’s going to be a great year! Peace, Love, Happiness.” stuff that people say when they’re feeling festive. Everyone loves everyone when it’s the holidays. Then there’s the day after. People go back to being pissed off, cutting others off in traffic and being generally grumpy.

Like me. ..I’m grumpy.  Maybe I’m just a wee bit closer to being “edgy.” Not quite bitchy…yet….just have that feeling that if someone pushes the old buttons a bit too far, I might do my rendition of the Tazmanian Devil tripping on acid.

Not sure if it’s the post-holiday meltdown, the fact that I’m utterly exhausted from doing absolutely nothing today or PMS is fast approaching. Could be all three. I have to keep repeating to myself: “Just zip it” so I don’t get into some verbal warfare with someone who really doesn’t deserve it.

Like the cashier at the supermarket today. She didn’t do much but her attitude just sucked. It was as if the world was imposing on her to work today. All 15 items I bought were a total chore for her to ring up. She didn’t even look up. Not a word. Not even “hello”. Oh that’s right, customer service is a special service that’s not widely practiced.

I was thinking: Sorry if you have a hangover, young lady, but it’s really not my problem. A lot of people need a job and you’ve got one. So shape the hell up and be friendly.

I said: Nothing.

Nothing. Not even a snide remark like, “You look like you love your job.”  I kept my mouth shut, mostly because I’m tired and just don’t have the energy to ruin someones day. It was likely she’d give me a blank stare as a response anyway.

Actually, I’m pretty proud of myself. I find it hard to hold back sometimes and when I’m edgy, it’s even worse. That’s when I realize it’s days like these that I should just stay home and wear big socks, comfy clothes and watch movies with my kids. Or eat chocolate.

So, here we are. The first day of the new year and it’s just been “blah”. Was it supposed to be full of excitement? Did I miss something? Is it perfectly OK not to be perky just because it’s a major holiday? Is that a lot of questions?

I just realized: I am PMSing. If there was a unfortunate man in my life he’d be rolling his eyes…or running for the door.

Time to go cry over something that’s totally not worth crying over. Like the fact that someone ate all the Hershey’s Kisses and there are none left for me.

We hybernated. Ate chocolate. Gave thanks. Did our own celebration! Papa with his football. Baby with her computer. And Momma with her book. Great Holiday! Love your Written Word. Recommend that you hybernate and love ever pampered moment.

zippedy do dah, zippedy ay…..Oooops. Almost let positivity slip through. :-)

It's tough being a minimum wage worker when everyone has the day off. But, hey, you're right. There are probably lots of people that would like her job.

On the other hand are the people who are just sooooo perky and want to ask you all kinds of questions about what you're up to. "Oh, I see you're getting Doritos. Watching some of the Bowl Games? Big party?" "Ohhhh. I love Ben and Jerry's , too. So yummy."

I just wanna smack 'em upside the head and get out of the store. But that would be illegal.

Maybe if you had some nice chocolate…it might do the trick, or so I have been told. :-) Blessings! Keep up the great work.

Always look at the new day as a fresh start, that’s how I get through those sort of days. Make tomorrow your fresh start at the new year and enjoy yourself some chocolate. :o )

Blame it on the weather :) It was cold, blustery, and snowing here all day.

I usually take the annoy the crap outta them route, and ask those like that cashier a bunch of annoying questions forcing them to interact.

Get your comfy clothes on and snuggle up on the sofa…sending chocolate your way m’dear!
