The Candle is Out

September 17, 2009

CandleBurning2Ends-253x170 The phrase “burning the candle at both ends” doesn’t even describe my life lately. More like the candle burnt for so long that it doesn’t exist. I am starting to realize I am human, I need sleep and I’m losing my multi-tasking edge.

Seriously, I’m usually really great at keeping commitments. It’s just that I’ve signed up for too many of them lately. I have a huge sense of humor but I’m too busy to figure out where it’s been hiding. I’m concerned that my fingers have keyboard impressions on them instead of finger prints. I don’t tweet nearly as much as I’d love to.

In fact, this morning I was greeted with a tweet from a really self absorbed ass-wipe charming guy who told me the link I just re-tweeted for someone was irritating. Irritating? I beg to differ. It was a really great post about a beach. Somewhere I’d like to be right about now. Preferably a lot warmer than the chilly evening we’re having here.

Irritating? Imagine. I’ve had no time to tweet and catch up with what’s going on with the people I love to tweet with and I was subject to someone with a chip on his shoulder. It’s obvious he had a bitch-fest with everyone he encountered and it wasn’t just me because I glanced through his stream of pissy tweeting and it was just that: pissy. Either the dude hasn’t had sex in a long time or he’s just one of those people who loves to find fault in others.

I blocked him. Months ago, I would have spent far too much time jabbing back at him and shredding his over-inflated ego. I can fake a PMS rage if I really need to. I’ve learned that for every idiot encounter on Twitter there are at least a dozen people that I’ll communicate with post-idiot who will become some of the greatest connections ever. Maybe I’m growing up? Not likely. I’ve just have no energy to waste on douchers.

He potentially could have become a really funny  blog post but I was trying to take care of my son who was home sick from school, write a few articles so the roof will remain over our heads and go to the store to get more tissues for the sneezing boy. Only to come back to 645 emails, my blackberry flashing in the corner of the room (I threw it there because it was buzzing to much) and the cat puking up a hairball on the hardwood floor. Hey, at least it wasn’t the couch. She’s good like that.

So, someone got off the hook today. The way I see it, there’s always going to be someone like that trying to put a damper on the Twitter party. Why even waste 140 characters on that? I’m thinking of buying a new candle tomorrow. Something with just one end. No two wick job. I need to start burning my candle from one end or I’m going to end up in a room at the  Happy Hills Home for the Burnt Out. Actually, doesn’t sound bad. Can I still tweet from there?

Meanwhile…I’m going to sleep . I promise an amusing blog post soon. I just can’t find where I put my sense of humor. When my head is less cluttered, I may find it.

…and I bet that guy you re-tweeted about isn't half as irritating as he thought. Maybe the "charming guy" needed a day at the beach. ;-)

Maybe it is time to listen to Elton John's a Candle in the Wind.

Sometimes it pays to step back and take a look at how much time we are spending at a particular "activity" and analyze whether it's really as much of a benefit as we imagine. If there's no balance in the juggling act, everything can fall. Just my experience.

    Take care of yourself, girl.
