Up Close and Personal with the Wienermobile
Today I was reminded of something I’ve been dreaming about since I was in elementary school. There it was in the middle of a large parking lot. I realized this was my first chance to get up close to this really fantastic creation…
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile
I know what you’re thinking. My aspirations are really quite strange. I have always wanted to ride in the Wienermobile. I’ve entered contests and written letters that went unanswered. The people at Kraft Foods aren’t impressed with my begging. But come on….I just want to take a spin in the hot diggety dog mobile.
Maybe it was enough for me to get up close to the Wienermobile today. No one was in it and there was a hotel next door to the lot it was parked in. The driver must have been taking a break. Hard work driving a giant hot dog, I suppose.
The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has been around since 1936. I’ve been obsessing about it since 1973. Thirty-six years of simply wanting to hitch a ride in the mobile hot dog.
Is that asking too much?

Did you hear the news that Oscar Mayer just died…? It was so sad, he was in his 90′s and was living in a hospice. This post just reminded me of that. I think he died just a week or two ago.
Now I have the Oscar Mayer Wiener song stuck in my head
That was definitely funny, Jen’s comment that is. I loved your experience with the Wienermobile. I got to experience the Oscar Meyer Truck at only 19 Years old. It was my first time and I was a big kid about it. If I ever find that pic, I will upload it to youtube. Sorry, you didn’t get to get in. We are going to have to track down the weinermobile and catch up with them to bring it to you!

OMG! The comment from Jenn is priceless.
I wonder what it’s like driving that thing around?

In an apparent “frankjacking”, the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile vanished yesterday from a hotel parking lot where the Wienerstaff was taking a munch needed Catsup Nap. An all-points bulletin has been issued for the giant mobile hot dog. The only clues at the site were a tube of lip gloss, an empty can of Pepsi and a package of Clairol Blonde hair dye. In a statement to press, Kraft Foods pleaded with the dog-napper to please return the Wienermobile so it can get its daily dose of relish and mustard. “The perpetrator of this crime can’t get far” commented Kraft’s Vice President of Wienermobiles, “no one knows the secret chili or corn batter recipes that the Big Dog runs on except myself and the Bush’s Baked Beans dog”.
Police have no suspects, although a reported sighting in Frankfort, KY turned out to be a false lead.
